This Post Doesn't Even Deserve a Title

Clark can officially play Steamroller! That's right. He can roll over both ways (except at nap time. Then he magically forgets how and needs my help flipping back over...). It's a pretty big deal in the baby world. The amount he's been sleeping at night is also a pretty big deal--more in the mommy world--but I don't want to brag about that too much, because then I know I will be cursed.

Aside from that, we've just been watching lots of Olympics. Mens gymnastics gives me a lot of anxiety and synchronized swimming is the coolest thing ever. I'm serious. After my sister inspired me with a video on Facebook, I did some research and found out that a US Olympic coach teaches only miles away from where I live! However I may have past my prime which is a pity because I know I would have been a synchro star. Oh well, I expect to have at least one daughter, and mark my words, I will use her to vicariously fulfill my lost dreams. "Toddlers in Swim Caps" mom?

Dabbling

I used to wish that I was really super amazing at just one thing, but I've learned to embrace the face that I'm just ok at a lot of things. I think this transition happened around Sophomore year of high school when I decided to quit going to ballet for 3 hours every day and just be a kid and have a social life. Then I reached my peak of hobby exploration. That year alone I was in dance, orchestra, and ice skating classes, culinary club, the ski/snowboard club, badminton team, and a few weeks on the tennis team (I think I quit after I got my fingers stuck in the strings of the racket when I was supposed to be listening to a lecture from the coach...or because if I did manage to hit the ball, it hurt my little wrists real bad). I even got the boy I liked to teach me and a friend guitar lessons.

Snowriders
Badminton
obviously
orchestra trip

So my latest hobbies are learning to use Adobe Illustrator to make the blog all cute (could you tell?) and penmanship. I just decided that being able to write really pretty would be a good skill to have, so I got this book last time I was at the library:

I guess if I can't be in school (I miss it so bad), I'll just teach myself anything and everything. Except sporty things. No hope there.

moved

I'm happy to say that our little family is back together, and we've moved into a little home in Pleasanton, California (pictures to come if I ever finish unpacking). As of now, I'm having mixed feelings about everything--mostly positive, but let's just get the negative out of the way first...

We don't have friends! And I'm really bad at making friends, but I'll have to learn because sitting at home with a baby all day is awfully lonely.  We really miss our families and friends. Please come visit.

I also sometimes feel like I'm having a mid-mid-life crisis. I'm the type of person that plans everything out in my mind before it happens (so much so that as a kid I would narrate my life in my brain as if it were an exciting novel). The problem is that for the past 21 years I have been planning right up to this point: "graduate from college, get married in the temple, start a family". It's really weird to have reached that point. I guess I forgot to plan much further, and there's still lots of life left! Maybe it was all the books and Disney movies that made me think everything from this point on was just "happily ever after"and not worry about the details. Anyway, the point of that whole ramble is that it's time to set more goals and have a direction and purpose. Just brain vomiting here.

On to happier and simpler things. This little town is great. I told Jacob it feels like living in a giant neighborhood which is pretty much what it is. The weather is beautiful; people complain that they're dying if it gets up to the 90s.We are also close to a lot of big cities with fun things to do. I can't wait to explore the whole bay area.

Also, Clark has been an angel. He will just hang out, perfectly content, while I try to get stuff done. He is even starting to be "fun" (which is the last word I would use to describe newborns) as he interacts more and more.

My favorite thing right now: the almost laugh.

Today he had his 2 month appointment, and he is 95th percentile for height, 75th for weight, and 45th for his head. If he keeps this up, we may have ourselves a basketball player which would make Jacob one happy guy. And as the nurse at his 2-week appointment so delicately put it, "Mom's a good cow!"

ok that's life for now. I intend to be a more daily blogger, but we'll see how that pans out.

Labor Day

On Sunday night we drove to Fillmore to play with all Jacob's friends at the Roper's barn (it's like, a cool hangout). We had the best dutch oven dinner, bags of candy, and all the ladies got to watch our husbands play football which was quite a treat. I love imagining what they all were like in high school and hearing all the funny stories of how they kept themselves entertained in a tiny town. I'm glad they've all grown up a lot since then, but not too much.
Finally Jacob set up our cots on the lawn and we slept under the stars which is actually not very cool when you're too blind to see the stars. It's also not cool to sleep on a farm, because all the animals have Tourette's and kept me up all night. Aside from that, it was a great way to spend our holiday!

friday

My week was pretty "blehh". So over school.

But, I love Fridays! Just a few things that made my evening great:

-getting to spend more than 2 minutes with Jacob, remembering we're married (not roommates).

-eeeaaating. yum

-Being super weirded out that we were car shopping, only to realize J was just killing time before we got to....

-and, of course, movie treats
Also when I sprinted down the hallway of the very empty JFSB on our way home, and Jacob said (laughing), "Wow, I've never seen you run before!"
How embarrassing.

Then this made me laugh. Out loud.

crazy people

For probably the past month, there has been a line of tents camped outside the Marriott center waiting for the next basketball game. Last week they wrapped around the ENTIRE building. Makes me want to go camping.
Is it Spring yet?

oh and I support Austin's idea for Brandon Davies: "I want to make shirts that say 'I'd do him too' with a big picture of his face"
BYU would love that.

Birthday Party and The Bachelor (I have to)

Soooo. The rest of our weekend was pretty cool, because on Saturday we celebrated our friend Amanda's birthday. There was some segregation as the boys played video games and the girls chatted..and ate cookies. We finally decided to all be friends so we could sing to the birthday girl and eat cake. Then we played Mafia, which I'm so good at that I often get killed off first thing. grrr.
On Sunday, we slept in wayyy too late. In the evening, we had dinner with the g-parents and played with Heather.
Monday, no school! Jacob's other grandparents took us to the Carl Bloch exhibit at the BYU museum of art. It was really great. Then they fed us pizza! That night I decided Jacob should take me on a date to Red Lobster (no, we're not rich. thank goodness for giftcards!) Then I had some friends over to watch The Bachelor. I'm so blessed to have friends that share my love for awful, dramatic, reality tv! So much so that they even play Fantasy Bachelor with me. That's right. Finally I don't have to make fun of (be jealous of) Jacob and his love for Fantasy Basketball.

Jacob's grandma is teaching me to paint.
It gives me something to do while the menfolk watch sporting events.

getting oooold

Last weekend we went Fillmore, UT for Jacob's 5 year reunion. Don't most people just do a 10 year? Anyway, out of his graduating class of a whopping 75, about 20 people and their spouses came. We were pretty much just hanging out with his friends that we normally hang out with, but it was fun to meet a few of his other classmates. After the volleyball tournament, we went to Jordan's farm to ride a zipline. To get up, we had to climb a really tall ladder up a tower and I am terrified of heights/climbing (so much that I tend to freak out whoever's with me). Once I got over my fear, it was really fun! Then there was dinner + a raffle, and we won some pretty sweet prizes.

Now I'm feeling pretty old. Or at least that I'm married to someone old.. Ok not really. But sometimes I feel like a grown up. Like when I go to the grocery store all by myself and get our weekly groceries to make dinners I'm sometimes like "woah this is such a grown-up thing to do!" Or when Jacob is always wearing a tie and dress shirt because he's becoming a business man. It's pretty weird and kinda cool. I don't know why I'm surprised every time I realize that I'm not 16 anymore! I'm losing it already..

Stars and Stripes Forever

Yesterday morning, I decided I was going to be a good girl and go running or work out or something. Then I looked at my shoes. Not ONE pair of any kind of sporty shoes. Ok, before you judge, just know that I have been taking dance classes as my form of exercise for the past 100 years. However, since no dance classes fit into my schedule this semester, I've been a bit lazy. My jeans get tighter every time I put them on, and that scares the crap out of me.
So we made a Target run, and I got myself some fancy running shoes. Hopefully, they will get more than 2 days of use.
Motivation please? (Bethany and I had a picture similar to this on our bathroom mirror for years to motivate us to be hot. Yes, we love Fergie. Get over it.)

Suns vs. Jazz

The good news:
There was a one-armed juggler at half time.

The bad news: We lost. booo

Yes, I bought a twelve-year-old boy's jersey off ebay and made a matching head band.
